Breastfeeding support at home in the Illawarra

The early weeks of feeding can feel overwhelming. I'm Brita, a registered nurse with neonatal intensive care experience, and I visit families in their own homes from Otford to Shell Cove to help with breastfeeding, bottle feeding and everything in between — at your pace, in your space.

Common reasons families get in touch

  • Latch and positioning
  • Sore or damaged nipples
  • Worries about milk supply
  • Slow weight gain or long feeds
  • Combining breast and bottle
  • Paced bottle feeding
  • Expressing and pumping plans
  • Babies with NG tube feeding
  • Twins and multiples
  • Babies home from NICU or special care

Why a home visit helps

Feeding happens at home, so that's where support makes the most sense. I can see your usual chair, pillows and routine, and we work through a real feed together rather than talking in theory.

There's no need to pack up a newborn and drive anywhere — just put the kettle on.

What happens in a visit

An initial visit runs for 90 minutes. We talk through your birth and feeding story, watch a feed, and put together a practical plan that fits your family. Every family's goals are different, and all feeding choices are respected.

Follow-up visits (45 minutes) can be at home or by telehealth, so we can adjust the plan as your baby grows. Where needed, I'll suggest when to involve your GP, child and family health nurse or a lactation consultant.

Neurodevelopmental, family-centred care

My background in neonatal care shapes how I work: reading your baby's cues, keeping feeds calm and connected, and supporting you as the expert on your own baby. Medically complex babies, including those on nasogastric tube feeds, are welcome.
